UBA Uganda Expands CSR with Tree-Planting Exercise in Wakiso

UBA Uganda, in partnership with My Tree Initiative, has strengthened its commitment to environmental sustainability through a tree-planting exercise at Namalere Parents’ Nursery and Primary School.

The initiative, held in Kawanda, Wakiso District, involved the planting of fruit trees and culminated in the creation of a symbolic “UBA Fruit Tree,” representing growth, sustainability, and long-term community impact.

The UBA delegation was led by Hoziana Niyonsaba Semanda, Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications, and Adolf Gumisiriza, Branch Manager of UBA Makerere, alongside representatives from My Tree Initiative. The team was received by the school’s headteacher, Samuel Ssali, and staff.

In his remarks, Ssali expressed appreciation to UBA Uganda for selecting the school as a beneficiary of the initiative.

“We are grateful to UBA Uganda for choosing our school for this important activity. Environmental conservation is critical, and I encourage our learners to take ownership of these trees. In the future, they will enjoy the fruits and the many benefits that come with them,” he said.

Speaking at the event, Semanda commended the school administration for its cooperation and for providing a conducive environment for the exercise.

“It is important that we instil a sense of environmental responsibility among young learners. We encourage the students to nurture these trees diligently,” she said.

She also emphasised UBA’s sustainability message, urging both students and staff to adopt responsible environmental practices.

“We encourage everyone to plant at least three trees for every one tree cut down. This is a simple but powerful way to protect our environment,” she added.

Gumisiriza highlighted the importance of consistent care in ensuring the survival and growth of the planted trees.

“Every tree planted today represents a future benefit for both the learners and the wider community. It is important that these trees are nurtured to maturity,” he said.

Sharifu Semugera, representing My Tree Initiative, conducted a practical demonstration, guiding pupils on proper tree-planting techniques and educating them on maintenance practices to ensure healthy growth.

Each pupil actively participated in planting a tree, fostering a sense of responsibility and personal connection to environmental conservation efforts.

The activity forms part of UBA Uganda’s broader Corporate Social Responsibility programme, which focuses on sustainable development, community empowerment, and environmental preservation.
